What I'm reading

I finally got all of the books I'm currently reading in one place, so now I can tell everyone what I'm reading. I prefer to read one book at a time, but I currently have five going:

1. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
2. This Day in the Life: Diaries From Women Across America
3. A Series of Unfortunate Events -The Penultimate Peril, Book 12 by Lemony Snicket
4. Salem's Lot by Stephen King
5. I Married My Mother-in-Law and Other Tales Of In-Laws We Can't Live With -- And Can't Live Without

As may be apparent, I have wide ranging tastes and am a fairly voracious reader.

Do you enjoy the Unfortunate Series? Or are you reading them more for Riley's benefit? I'm just curious. I felt like they were a little too elementary for me to truly enjoy for just my own reading. But I do look forward to sharing them with Ella and Lily when they get older.

Also, how are you liking the MIL book? :-)

They're certainly not engrossing or compelling on an adult level, but the child in me enjoys the dark humor and the fact that the author is trying to appeal to children without pandering to them. I am acquiring the whole set for Riley's library and try to read each new volume aloud for his benefit. I'm sure he doesn't follow the story, but he does listen for words that he knows so they apparently capture his attention on some level.

As for the MIL book--truth be told, I started it a while ago but cannot recall much of what I read. I'll have to start over again when I pare my "open" book list down. I've finished This Day in the Life. It was surprisingly bland when you consider that it is supposed to provide a peak in to the daily lives of vastly different women. Maybe all of our lives are mundane? That can't be...
